Please read through all the tasks you will be expected to complete before continuing. Explicit instructions of each task will be found on the process page. All resources you will require are on the resources page.By now you should have read our letter from the "Prime Minister"! If not please read it on our Introduction page
Over the next 5 weeks you are to complete the following tasks:
Week 1:
  1. Organise groups and allocate one biome per group.
  2. Choose group member roles.
  3. Create a mindmap that will assist you to research specific elements of your biome. Use Kidspiration to create your mindmap. (refer to your 'mission statement' for areas to be included and researched)
  4. Evaluate and use relevant resources specific to your biome. You will find these on the resources page.
  5. View any documentaries and videos available on your biomes page, take notes from these using the graphic organiser.
  6. Please save any files created for this project the name of the biome you are studying. Save this file in 'your documents' on the student shared drive and back the file up to the class external hard drive (passport).

Week 2:
  1. You will have an excursion to either Perth Zoo or AQWA- depending on your selected biome. You will take photo's and locate further information of the flora and fauna that is found in the biome you are researching.
  2. Download and organise the photos you took whilst on the excursion to the computer. Save in your pictures
  3. Begin creating in MS Word to collate and report findings in the form of a brochure or other document (e.g. a poster) to support your oral presentation. Please save this and any other files for this project the name of your biome you are studying. Save this file in 'your documents' on the student shared drive, back the file up to the class passport.

Week 3:
  1. Begin creating your movie using Movie Maker. Use your photos taken from your excursion and images from other sources. This will play as a backdrop for you whilst you are presenting your oral report. You can add appropriate sounds to this, however remember your target audience.
  2. Write your speech for your presentation. It needs to be no longer than 10 minutes. ideally each group members report will be approximately 3 minutes in duration.
  3. Continue working on your supporting document/poster. Don't forget to back up your files!

Week 4:
  1. Practice speech and presentation in class time prior to performance at he school assembly.
  2. Complete supporting brochure/poster/movie if not already done so, ensuring all points included on your mind map have been addressed.
  3. Perform presentation to the whole school at assembly as a rehearsal for the conference.
  4. Video record the rehearsal (assembly) so you can reflect on and improve your presentation skills in readiness for the conference presentation.

Week 5:
  1. Create a short quiz for your fellow classmates to explore your biome. Only include questions they will be able to answer from the information you have provided within your brochure/poster.
  2. Complete the self evaluation rubric and reflection sheet.
  3. Continue to practice your speech and presentation until the 'big day'! Good luck!
